Going solo in flamenco - Ever experienced it?

Hola Reader

Ever wondered if you can go solo?

In this video, I take you behind the scenes of my students’ monthly “graduation day” — where each of them courageously dances their beginner’s flamenco solo. 💃✨

🌟 What you’ll see in this video:

  • How beginners learn flamenco rhythm
  • My early years training in Spain! It was intense!
  • The distinctive flamenco style (body, hips, arms, fingers)
  • A tip on getting that 'Spanish look' for your arms.
  • Flamenco coordination and why it is great training for both body and brain
  • Sneak peek of the Flamenco Culture Trip I organise to Spain (you can prepare in advance for them in my classes)

Don’t just learn steps — discover how to listen, connect with music and Spanish culture, and find joy in expressing yourself - spontaneously!

Warmly,

Tania

PS. New OCTOBER term starts tomorrow! You're still in time to sign up ;)

We're dancing to this Tangos style in the video above and here's the music

Yo no me pongo en el pelo / Cinta de color de Graná
Hasta que no vea venir / A mi novio de la Havana

Here's my informal translation:

I will not put on my hair ribbons of the colour of Granada/red

Until I see my man return from Havana

My friend, discover the stories and culture in flamenco 'letras' (lyrics). It will help inspire your dance expression!

That is why I share letras with my students.

Over to you - How would you express the longing you have for the beloved you are waiting for?

Dance Tutorial

Try this (castanets) dance sequence

I recorded this for a student, to help her get the castanets sequence for our Saturday Classical Spanish Dance class.

  • I show how you can practise from home or anywhere (I did so from a hotel)
  • Dance can be a joyful part of everyday life (not just when you are at the studio)

I've started this new You Tube channel and will be uploading tutorials. You can follow and learn too.

Let me know what you are keen to learn, and it might inspire me to do a video for you!
